Dear IMA members,
I thank each one of you for electing me as President of IMA Thiruvananthapuram for 2026–27. My team and I are deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in us, and we take up this responsibility with the seriousness it deserves. Bound together by our profession and our commitment to society, we will work as one team under the IMA umbrella for the good of our members and the community we serve. With over 5,800 members, IMA Thiruvananthapuram is the largest branch in Kerala and the third largest in India, and every voice in this branch carries weight when we face the challenges before our profession. We will build on the work of previous teams, and I warmly invite your suggestions and participation throughout the year.
Our priority remains the fight against violence on doctors and attacks on hospitals. We will press for preventive measures, swift legal action and stronger protection for healthcare workers, and we will stay closely engaged with professional issues, including amendments to the NMC Act, the Clinical Establishments Act and the Consumer Protection Act, fully supporting the efforts of State and National IMA. This year we will give special focus to our schools through the IMA School Health Brigade, reaching students across the district with training in first aid and Basic Life Support, awareness on substance abuse, mental health, road safety and healthy lifestyles, and nurturing young health ambassadors who carry these messages to their families and peers.
We will strengthen our flagship programmes, including the Palliative Care Project, the IMA Campaign against Narcotics, BLS training, the Trauma Rescue Initiative, the National Initiative for Safe Sound and the Pink Project camps for adolescent girls' health, and we will remain ready to respond to public health emergencies such as dengue, Nipah and other outbreaks, and to extend prompt help during floods, cyclones and other disasters. We will promote medical ethics and professionalism to protect the integrity of our community, and actively spread awareness of IMA's welfare schemes (SSS1, SSS2, SSS3, PPS and others) so that every member can benefit from them.
The JDN and MSN networks are the future of IMA; we will work alongside them and strive to reduce their membership fees to encourage wider enrolment. Regular CME programmes will continue throughout the year, along with sessions on medical developments abroad, particularly in the USA, Europe and Australia. This year we also plan a vibrant calendar of arts and cultural programmes. Our branch office in the heart of the city is at your service for all matters relating to membership, schemes and social projects. I look forward to your wholehearted support and cooperation in making this a memorable year for IMA Thiruvananthapuram.
