From the Secretary's Desk

A message to our members for the 2026–27 term.

Dear all,

Greetings from IMA Thiruvananthapuram! Let me begin by thanking you for entrusting our team with the responsibility of leading one of the biggest branches of the world's largest professional organisation. With more than 5,800 members, ours is the largest branch in Kerala and among the largest in the country, and that strength gives us both a strong voice and a real duty. We take office at a time when the medical profession faces some of its greatest challenges, from emerging diseases and resource constraints in the health sector to mixopathy, attacks on doctors and hospitals, unemployment among young doctors and the mushrooming of new medical colleges.

These challenges cannot be wished away; they have to be faced together, and unity is the first requirement. As Secretary, I will work closely with the President and the entire team to keep our members informed, connected and ready to act whenever the profession is under threat. We will stand firmly with State and National IMA on the safety of healthcare workers and on amendments to the NMC Act, the Clinical Establishments Act and the Consumer Protection Act, and we will keep pressing for meaningful reforms in the health sector.

Our commitment to society will continue through the Palliative Care Project, the Campaign against Narcotics, BLS training and the School Health Brigade, and the branch will be ready to respond quickly to outbreaks and natural disasters. Equally important is service to our own members. We will make sure every member knows about and benefits from IMA's welfare schemes, and that the branch office remains a responsive point of contact for membership, schemes and projects. Regular CME programmes will keep us professionally updated, and we will work hand in hand with the JDN and MSN, who carry the future of our association.

We request voluntary help from each and every member of the branch to execute these programmes in a time-bound manner. I also invite you to take an active part, share your ideas and lend your support, so that together we make 2026–27 a year of purpose and achievement for IMA Thiruvananthapuram.

Jai Hind! Jai IMA!!Dr Varghese T PanickerHon. Secretary, IMA Thiruvananthapuram 2026–27
